But first, let’s discuss some of the key factors to look for when considering a faux fur investment. Now I can’t do anything about the guy that’s gonna be wearing the faux fur. I can only advise you on what to look for in the coat. The guy is up to you. And for the men that are reading. I’m not as shallow as I  sometimes  may present myself. I always lead with my heart. Kindness, a sense of humor, playfulness, compassion and emotional intelligence are the attributes that I’m personally drawn to. If you have outer beauty, then that is just the icing on the cake. Cuz if you aren't pretty on the inside, well then...

Before you hit purchase on that website or swipe that credit card at the retail store, consider the materials used in the coat you're about to purchase. Not all materials are created equal. Look for faux furs that are made from high quality synthetic materials that have the look and feel of real fur. The technology that is available today is putting out some fabrics that so closely resemble the real thing that some real fur manufacturers have been caught mislabeling their products as faux fur. It has become increasingly more difficult (and illegal in many states) to sell real fur, so companies are wrongfully labeling their garments. You can read more about it in this article I wrote. 

If you have any questions, always call the manufacturer and ask. It’s important that companies be transparent about their practices. Look for modacrylic or acrylic fibers. These fabrics are much softer than polyester, which is a bit scratchy to the touch and not as plush and sheen. Look for coats that are well lined and have good insulation. It is important that you purchase a coat that will keep you warm through the colder months and will last you for years to come. Investing in a solid piece and not fast fashion helps align with ethical and sustainable practises.

Faux furs come in all different styles, from long coats, to hoods and ears, to jackets and bombers. Make sure you choose something that compliments your individuality and your wardrobe. Only to realize that they ordered from a knockoff site. We can not stress this enough. There are too many fake sites out there doing this and it's hard for us to keep track of them all. Caring for your faux fur should be easy if you follow a  few basic steps. Always spot clean when you can. Just splash a little cold water and dab. If more extensive cleaning is necessary, you can wash in cold water by hand with a gentle detergent. Only put in a washing machine on gentle if the label states that you can do so. And if you have any questions, call the company and ask how to care for your new faux fur.

I’m a sucker for a guy in casual wear and nice coats. I love the effortless sporty look beneath something a bit more sophisticated. It gives the whole look an  “I don’t really care but deep down I do, so I’m just gonna elevate my sweatsuit game right now while I run out and act like it's no big deal”  kind of attitude. I see you. And I’m not mad at it.  AND  I’ll be the first to admit, that’s pretty much me everyday I get dressed. I have the ability to make my three day-worn-in-a-row sweats look pretty friggin’ chic.

And if hoods are not your thing and you’re looking for something a bit more tailored, this coat is a great option. It still provides a bit of that SpiritHoods playfulness, but with a much more contemporary look. I have this coat and it looks great when I’m out running around in my activewear all day, but then dresses up really nicely when I’m out for the night. And the light colors give way to beautiful patterning and I love the white interior lining. It’s a nice contrast to all the darker coats I tend to wear. And the fabric is so satiny smooth.

There are so many places that steal images and use them illegally to sell you a much cheaper version that looks nothing like what they claim in the picture. I see it happen everyday.

Because if you are purchasing this Tom Ford coat, you will be getting a high quality, high end label faux fur. This oversized look reminds me of what my great grandmother used to wear and just screams glamor. The long pile and coloring on this coat looks so much like real fur that you will be checking the label just to make sure it is faux fur. This is a serious coat and a serious investment. And I can imagine how it looks as you move, the modacrylic long pile hairs just kind of blowing in the wind. Yeah, it’s definitely a vibe.

This is a great coat and gives you a lot of bang for your buck. The leopard print is fun and dramatic and the oversized cocoon like structure is perfect if you’re looking for lots of room. The coat falls well below the knee depending upon your height. It has pockets and a wide lapel collar. If you’re on a tight budget and want a long leopard faux fur, this is a great option.

Yes, you read that correctly. This coat is ten thousand dollars. ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. Okay I just sat down to breathe for a moment. This coat has a long tailored profile and concealed buttons and is made of 100% modacrylic. And it comes with a label on the inside that reads “SAINT LAURENT PARIS.” 

This is a gorgeous coat. The fabric is mid weight and has a sleek opulent sheen to it. This is a coat that you get things done in. Got a meeting. No problem, wear this coat. Got a date. No problem, wear this coat. Got a trial hearing. No problem, wear this coat. Getting a divorce. No problem, wear this coat. Going to the gym. Maybe don't wear this coat. I wouldn't want to even guess what the dry cleaning bill would be for this number.

And coming in at number 9 is the collared black panther faux fur coat for men. Side note: if you love the St. Laurent coat and want to save $10,600, this is our version. It has the same beautiful black opulent sheen. I think our black panther collared faux fur coat deserves a big shout out! It looks way more expensive than the price tag. Maybe not $11,000 kind of expensive, but still… (but then again do I think the St. Laurent is worth the price tag? Truth? No.)
